About

An organization built on listening.

Art Without Lines (AWL) is a small nonprofit forming in Houston, Texas. Our name carries two meanings: art that begins without rules or boundaries — and a guiding intention behind everything we do, always with love.

Our story

Why this, and why now.

AWL began as a quiet conviction: that children — especially those navigating hard circumstances — need somewhere to make a mess, be themselves, and be witnessed without correction. Most art programs ask kids to produce something. We're building one that asks nothing of them at all, and offers space, materials, and presence in return.

We are an inclusive, community-based organization. Our facilitators don't teach in the traditional sense — they listen. They guide gently. They make room for whatever shows up on the page.

The acronym

AWL · Always With Love

The four letters at the heart of our name double as a reminder. Every space we create, every facilitator we welcome, and every program we run is built around the same intention: that the child in front of us is met with patience, warmth, and care.

It is a small thing to put into a name. It is a large thing to live up to. We try anyway.

Founding

Where we are.

Art Without Lines is currently in formation. We are filing articles of incorporation in Texas, drafting our bylaws, building our board of directors, and preparing our application for federal 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Our registered agent is Lauri Joan Wray, and our home base is Houston's Heights neighborhood. We expect to begin offering our first programs in partnership with women's shelters, libraries, and community spaces as soon as our nonprofit status is established.

Board of directors

Outside experience, shared mission.

We are assembling a small founding board of people whose perspective, judgment, and care extend beyond the walls of any single field. The full slate is being finalized and will be announced once the organization is incorporated.

"Every child deserves a safe space to express themselves — and to be heard, exactly as they are."
